What do you reckon, Abdul? There has to be something in that parade ring, as the surviving horses (and there's a significant phrase) look like they've been in some degree of distress as well

Fenix Two & Marching Song both brown bread through heart attacks in the parade ring and the jp mcmanus horse withdrawn at the start leaving a 1/5 jolly to lead home whatever else can move out of the 6 left standing

They're not using that ring again today and are carrying out post mortems on both horses, Abdul.

They probably have their groundwork done by Union fucking Carbide or something.

That's an awful state of affairs - not just that something has gone wrong but that it wasn't noticed and subsequently can't be found.

Heads should roll, as you say

There's no sense of duty or personal pride any more, Eric. Alan Shepard (the moon golfer) once said "It's a very sobering feeling to be up in space and realize that one's safety factor was determined by the lowest bidder on a government contract."

That's the problem now - people would sooner cut corners and do it cheap than do it right. Cheap means less training, less development and less skills involved. In the pursuit of perceived value for money, we have foresworn excellence. Restaurants fail daily by McDonalds continue to thrive. VFM has been confused with "cheapest" and ultimately, there are areas where people will die because of it.

In terms of "people", today, they were lucky.
