What are the odds...
....of the only 4 teams that begin with the letter 'W' in the top flight being the bottom 4 of the Premiership.
Because they are right now!

Re: What are the odds...
It is!!
4,844 possible sets of four in 20 teams....then 5 sets of 4 teams (1-4, 5-8, 9-12, 13-16, 17-20)
So multiply by 5 as they are the 17-20 group....24,220
Spot on.
I was a betting shop manager remember.

The assumption of random equal probability of being down there isn't there, Tony.
Bigger odds in my opinion of all the sides beginning with "M" occupying the bottom places

Re: What are the odds...
Added to which, Tony, if you are saying will a team with a W be bottom, it's 20/4
2nd bottom is 19/3 of the remainder
Third bottom is 18/2 of the remainder
Multiply by 17 for the last remaining.
4844/1 as you say. You don't multiply out by five, though, as all foursomes are equal

I'm speaking purely in mathematical terms Bert....not taking ability into account.
Mathematically, the odds of any dog winning any race is 5/1.....we know that isn't so when other things are thrown into the mix of course.

I'll take those odds in any vacant trap race you wish to offer save for an eight-runner.
(Why did we dispense with 8 dog races in this country? The only tricast I ever landed - admittedly for 6x10p twists when a student, traps 1-4-7)

I accept these odds as well
I recall on Betfair someone asking the odds of October having a Friday the 13th. Guess how long it was before someone came up with 6/1?
- Spoiler:
- Three and a half hours

56 combinations only though, Tony. The permutation is the killer multiplying the factor by 6
