the bus goes out into the countryside,
between villages en-route.
and in the darkness,
towns nearby are visible by the street-lighting,
like little christmas decorations.

in reality they're not so little,
are they.

and i think,
i don't know why,
all that electricty.
all those houses,
roads.
tarmac,
and concrete,
infrastructure.
what it all must have taken to build,
the resources of the world.

resources that we raped and pillaged,
from third world countries,
taken for a pittance.
the obsceneness of "modernity".
when really,
on what natural-resources this country was blessed with,
we might well be the ones living in mud huts,
if not for our imperialistic past.

we went,
we saw,
and we looted.
okay,
we weren't alone,
it was a free for all,
a veritable feeding frenzy,
and we gorged ourselves.
on anything and everything.

and to some extent,
still are.

and for how much longer?

and when i think of how many houses have been ripped down,
and had new roads and streets,
rebuilt in the name of modernisation.
all bright,and clean,
as in sterile.

and gentrification,
i hate that.

free from,
dirt,and grime,
no smells,
we can't have smells.

i miss smells,
smells chacterise,
define places,and things.

and as i sit here drinking my coffee.



i think of the food.
wheat even.
we produce,

what food do WE,
as a nation,
actually produce?
compared to population size,
fuck all.

gas,oil.

and all the foreigners,
without them,
what are we?

I know what you mean eric. we have got rid of polution which is good, but we have ripped out the heart of our cities. where there were back to back houses, they have been replaced with characterless and featureless boxes of the same proportions.

You should have noticed that the green agenda seems to have fucked off now we're all paupers.

All those who lied are now coming out. Little things like Quality Street who shrank their tins "to fight obesity", except of course, they now admit it was motivated by profit only. Hotels tell you to only wash the towels that need washing to keep down costs. So the bullshit of detergent and carbon footprint has disappeared, then? Nothing has its price increased any more to "dissuade" use. The price is merely increased with minimum wordage so that people might not go fucking bananas at fuel prices rising at three times the rate of inflation.

Why they ever had the pretence in the first place I do not know.
