Might check them out, doing OU at the moment. Doing an essay about identity work & Blaenau Gwent, should have been in today. CBA to do it, so got a week's extension.

the bit I liked the most about part two, was the way it changed the way people looked at time etc , and the way the rural life was no bed of roses

I am glad I listened , I am less ignorant than I was 3 days ago, thats for sure

Yes MG I did learn a huge amount , too much to waffle about , but it filled in so many gaps in my huge lack of understanding about UK history

seems you have answered my questions.
we live with the legacy everyday.old hospitals, schools, roads, plumbing sewers etc.and of course the mindset of rule britania.

and children as well , its easy to look at that period as dickensian child labour

when all it was , was a continuation of rural acceptability

I'm just finishing up the Bill Bryson book At Home, which explores similar ideas.

You might like it. Fascinating stuff and also very entertaining.

yes.whether you lived in the city or the countryside it was nevertheless a hard life.but somehow living in the countryside where you where born gave you that support that you wouldnt necessarily have in the faceless city.
watching jack the ripper earlier, i said to my daughter, even though london was the richest city the slums were more like a third world country now.
