Police have closed down an illegal betting shop in an area of Benidorm which the Alicante edition of La Verdad newspaper said in a report on Monday is popular with the British, and whose clients appear to have been from the UK. At least four arrests have been made, and a large amount of cash in both euros and pounds was confiscated. An unspecified amount of Viagra tablets were also seized, the paper said.

Police moved in in the early hours of Sunday following a complaint from a local resident about the noise from a neighbouring bar, and discovered the betting shop in adjacent premises when they carried out the inspection.
