Going to Madrid beginning of April

Going for 3 nights/4 days on a stag do.
Hopefully tickets are sorted for Real's home game against Gijon.
The rest of the time will just be a booze fest.

Anyone been recently? Decent places to booze & eat in? Decent weather?

Only European capital not on a major waterway, DD. Disliked as a weaker capital by successful industrial towns and centres such as Barcelona, Bilbao and so forth.

Nightlife starts later than just about everywhere else in Europe. Was the city about which the term "fifth column" was first used...

Prado for culture, DD. Go see Guernica, feel humble. Go the Retiro, ogle women and do park things, go back, siesta afternoon, set yourself up for the late night

loads bars!!

remeber, spanish dont start till 10 or 11 pm so dont start too early
dinner is late, loads great tapas bars, some of the best in spain
also, loads good restraunts. if you like good steak, try find a Patagonias. you will love it!

town open pretty much all night, subway shuts from about 4-7am though, and its pricey for taxis

central square is great, loads nice little bars
avoid the irish bars as full pissed brits and easy pickings for pick pockets.

april, will be fucking hot mate. its 20 over here today, got home and straight into tshirts
still not as warm as barcellona though

cheap and cheerful if you avoid the main , cheesy strip aimed at tourists.
enjoy the food.

Morcillas (which, as a black pudding man myself, might actually fit the bill, even if they aren't from Bury), chorizos, serrano hams, albóndigas, there's fuck all that they don't know that isn't worth knowing about butchering pigs. Chuck in some Manchego (cheese) and you're set.

Are you going to watch football? We went to see Barca at Camp Nou, turned up Saturday morning and got tickets at the gate, 20€ I think.
