Anybody have any experience of Wordpress Blogs
I want to try and make a club blog for the Bowling Club. Quite like this for a template
http://thirteendemo.wordpress.com/
Is it all pretty straight forward? I recall Kit saying he thought it was excellent for most stuff.

website
buy a domain name - you should be able to get the bowling club's name.co.uk, ie, oldmunchingburybowlingclub.co.uk or whatever - and you can host it for free using microsoft office live small business: http://smallbusiness.officelive.com/en-GB/ and it's a piece of piss to create, host and update, step by step instructions and free ms support by email
you can have as many pages as you want, you can give the pw to anyone so it's not just you updating, you can post racy home-made photos of doris bending over feeling your ball or whatever they do, etc
much more professional

awards. everyone loves awards.
my cricket club used to do it in the pub at the end of the day. should work online too.
even though it's just a bit of fun, all the boys look forward to it and it generates good banter.

Cant figure out how to get the free templates, says
Your Template Gallery is empty. Save the Web pages in Page Manager as templates and use them to create new Web pages.

Re: Anybody have any experience of Wordpress Blogs
i would suggest not over-complicating it and sticking to standard photos, small file sizes so pages don't take too long to load - some duffers might still be on dial up on 1mb conns
i generally start with/all you really need is: home page for intros, news page next, fixtures and results next then a useful info and links page, finish off with a contact us page which you set so they send messages from the page which go to your designated mailbox - you can add a link at the bottom of the home page to a forum you can also set up - could be racy
kiss - keep it simple stupid, much easier to work for the users, avoid leery colours and graphics, don't keep changing the format, settle with one after some qa and agreement and stick with it - nobody likes change, least of all wrinklies
hapy to help once you start knocking, it up let me know

also, if you are so completely queer you have an iphone, you can run the website, linked forum and emails on the move, probably whilst you're at fashion shows, shopping with 'girlfriends' or the hairdressers
