(Power happy Cleggy) Party chairman Tim Farron also rallied the troops with a speech packed with jokes - some at the expense of the party's coalition partners the Conservatives.

Hitting back at jibes that the Lib Dems have become Conservatives since forming the coalition, he told activists: "I share a bed with my wife - it does not make me a woman."

Specious analogy, surely? Sitting in parliament at the same time as the opposition does not make you opposition.

You need to extend the analogy. It's like sharing your bed with your wife but when you agree to make sweet sweet congress, one fails to tell the other they have syphilis.

And then you both have it and the mania from it is reflected in wider society.
