I recall Derek Thompson coming into a local Ladbrokes on one of his meet and greets when he was contracted to them and being asked by one of the old gimmers if he had any tips.

"I think Bob Champion will have a good day at Fakenham" says Ho Ho Thommo (Champion was training at the time, Tom Grantham was yard jockey).

Champion had two runners - Pat's Minstrel and Feile Na Hinse. Backed them both in singles and a double. Both won, 100/30 and 5/1. Spectacular tipping...until...

Recently (well last year) , I was reading a book of columns by a racing journo called Jeff Bernard , he happened upon JM in a pub in Soho around this time, and described him as 'a fucking annoying cunt' Twisted Evil

At a Doncaster race meeting I asked him how much did he want for what i had identified as a pink gold patek philippe wrist watch he was wearing and still does wear now. He said its was a micky mouse watch (meaning it was fake) ....i think he was scared i was going to mug him Laughing
