It's not really that though, Kit. It was the piss poor excuses trotted out to mitigate. That's the work of a current parliamentarian, no matter how wrong it is. Look at today - Mandelson, always fucking Mandelson, and the rest of the new Labour Mafia have come out with
""I'm afraid that sometimes you get picked up by a microphone in this way, saying something that yes you don't believe, but you say in the heat of a moment.
"We all do it, we all regret it and, how people I think should judge him is by how he's responded, by 'phoning her immediately and giving her an unqualified apology."
He's just said there that Brown fucked up but don't judge him on that, judge him on how well he swept up the fuckup he actually made himself. WTF? I'd sooner judge someone on the fact that rather than having to make a song and dance about it, they just didn't do it in the first place.
It's a peculiar trait in British politics and work that if you drop a catch and then field your own drop, the subsequent fielding is more important than the drop. The exception is of course, the cricket field where the analogy comes from. Out in the cricketing middle of course, nothing has changed and you were as you were before it all happened. If cricket were run in the political way, maybe they'd just ask the batsman to leave the field because of the efforts of the dropper to catch it, even though he didn't?
Also - Darling
"I hope people will judge him in the round. The fact we are coming out of this recession is down to him in no small part."
Don't know how debatable economic recovery is involved with calling a woman a bigot. Seems a bit of a straw-clutching exercise. And Mandelson again (why is he there for everything for a quote? - he's like Ralph Little in the "I love..." shows)
"It is very unfortunate that this remark that he didn't believe got picked up. But he should be judged on how he responded. And that's why he apologised immediately."
Isn't that "if only he'd got away with it"? And as above, no, he should be judged on what he said and not how he responded when caught squatting next to a pile of shit.

...now that they're going to be out of a job, what order would you fuck the following (I do realise this is a question from a circle of hell):
Harriet "Halfman" Harman
Jacqui "Delia" Smith
Yvette "Henry" Cooper
Hazel "Fucking" Blears
Ruth "Bye Bye" Kelly
and given their history, would you trust any of them with oral?

And that gives me the hat-trick of Cameron quotes:
"So, Caroline, I believe we have a few things in common. We both like it up the council... Bozza taught me that slang, you know. While he was up the council"

Personally don't mind if the Lib-Dems do well - gears us up for a hung parliament in which first past the post will likely be abolished as part of the horse-trading.
At the next general election, there might therefore be the odd candidate who I think is actually worth voting for.

Simon Hughes came out subsequent to this. You know him, the bloke who campaigned as "the straight choice" against Peter Tatchell, the sly cunt.
Ironically, before he'd come out he was already in bed with the Conservatives. BOAT's quote above is a bit prescient - given their impending wipeout, there only need to be six or seven left hand bats...

Turns out you would only need three.
And one of them isn't Simon Hughes, the fucking turd. Not many brighteners for the next five years of thieves but him not being one of them is one.

Tim Farron is fucking hilarious.
"Disillusioned with Labour during their leadership bollocks? Come join us - we disillusioned so many people in the last five years that the double decker bus of MPs we had has become two taxis. With room for luggage."
