Any of you lot anglers?

i went down to the river this morning.
they don't DO rods now,
it's those poles isn't it.
so,
instead of casting out,
they have this 90ft pole,
that plonks their baited hook,
about 3ft from the bank on the other side.
why?

Technological advances, Eric - carbon fibre opens up no end of possibilities. Look at golf clubs, flexing shafts and titanium head woods mean that they are only "woods" in an archaic name. Bigger sweet spots, better control, longer off the tee and fairway. Tennis racquets the same.

I remember the old wooden rods when i went fishing with my dad as a girl.and the round reels.

Your dad used to dress as a girl when you went fishing?

A pole is much more precise and it only takes a minute to change your rig and alter your depth, its very hard to compete against a pole match fishing lakes ponds and canals



However I much prefer carp fishing on a carp rod fishing a waggler or feeder, poles can be useless on a faster river too
