Bang on, Eric. And the third of those has a responsibility to the first two that it completely absolves itself of in the name of retaining power. The first two of course have a responsibility to themselves but this country has allowed self-obsession to become acceptable in the wake of the decline of the media, the rise of reality TV, the culture of "Haves" where people seek to win votes to marry a footballer live on Channel 4 and one is evicted week by week.

Prince Charles should never have married that first wife. She was the bell wether in this decline - courted the press and repelled them in eual masure and became the development of lazy celebrity-oriented journalism instead of news. Coming together isn't Communism, it's humanism, Eric. Trouble is, down that road is meritocracy and egalitarianism and that scares the living shit out of many because they have to produce results to justify their position.

And they aren't up to it because they have no affinity for their fellow man.
