Melbourne Cup
The phenomenon tonight is that of the 24 runners, 11 are British-based.
The greater phenomenon again is that in the race that stops a nation, of the 11, four UK trainers have got not one, but two horses in the race.
An ever greater phenomenon is that although three of the pairs are from classic-winning yards where Arab money is a factor, the fourth is far removed from that sphere.
Our man is Brian Ellison, and he is a gaff track trainer from North Yorkshire, a small outfit, 42 winners on the flat this season and four winners in the last month (two on the all weather, two over the sticks, none on flat turf).
I hope and pray he gives the fucking lot a bloody nose.
Moyenne Corniche, win and place
Saptapadi, win but more place
Small bet, bit of interest and a bit to say "I was there" if he does break the mould. Moyenne Corniche certainly not a forlorn hope and it's a bit of a way from Scarborough.

Re: Melbourne Cup
Having 2 e/w bets in the race
1 Lucas Cranach , looks well weighted and decent recent run, 11/1 with bet 365.
2. Lost in moment also looks over priced 29.0 on betfair steady improvement and given an hard time LTO looks to have been aimed at this race for Godophin.

Re: Melbourne Cup
This year, I've yet to find a second choice but I am a huge fan of Mount Athos for Luca (hence "Filthy" on the other thread)

Re: Melbourne Cup
Three agaist the field tonight, sporting selections.
Red Cadeaux would possibly the only British horse ever who could bring the house down at Flemington. Three time runner-up in the last four years, and the Aussies do love a trier. Seems to like it there, massive global moneyspinner and 25s is huge.
Gust of Wind is a lightweight that can't be harmed by getting poundage all around, 25s again
Preferment might be the best home hope but acts at the track and surely can't be far away. 9/1
Anyone who does five places is being very sporting...

Re: Melbourne Cup
Red Cadeaux broke down, which is horrible news. Preferment finished down the field and naturally, Gust of Wind was a never nearer sixth beaten a cat's cock hair out of the places.
