Found out today that the man who initially diagnosed me, a thoroughly earnest bloke whose ability was only exceeded by his compassion, manner and affability as house officer then consultant and teacher, died in October. He was 44, and the kicker is that he died of a disease (bowel cancer) that he prevented or conquered for so many in life. Married to another doctor and the father of three teenagers.

I don't appreciate the twists and turns of life at the minute.

Life can be cruel, it has an habbit of kicking you in the bollocks sometimes

I last saw him in clinic a couple of years back, he'd been ill but was back in and working, not looking as strong as he did but looked on the road to recovery rather than how you look in decline.

I'm infrequent in clinic at the minute because of decent remission (on the max 12 month clinic-to-clinic review) and so only found out second hand. A huge shock as I was diagnosed 15 years ago and he's been there throughout
