Dont think they're at their best playing the likes of Spain Portugal France and italy ...they do better against fellow more northern/central european sides.

Damn fucking straight. Italy seem to have the edge whenever they play against stronger sides. The antithesis of England, the world's flat track bullies

Re: I'm paying for Christmas
thinking about it,
wonderful thing hindsight,
but germany's way of playing,
would probably suit the italians.
passion v robots.
man v machine.
the germans are too stiff/rigid for the italians.
and apparently,
germany has never beaten italy in a competitive game.
well,
in their last 6 games i believe.
btw,
good call boat,
and well done.

Apparently the Italian way (I remember hearing this) is that they never expect to win. They're naturally cautious as a result and this serves them well against the more talented sides but leavesthem a bit stuck for ideas against the shit sides (look at Spain 82 and who they did for in the second groups. Then look how shit they were in the first group).
The English way involves telling the world "we fucking gave you the game!" and then expecting everyone to roll over. Consequently, group qualification when there's low expectancy turns us into thinking we're world beaters and then we Eubank ourselves out of it.
We need a North Korean tomato reception IMO. They crashed out in '66, had the bombardamento di pomodori on return and two years later were European Champions, next world cup went toe to toe with the best national side ever to win a World Cup in the final.
