Gold Cup day and although impossible to be bullish over a 27-runner handicap, I can't see past either Pintura or Regal Parade. Reason? You need something that won't be too inconvenienced by the heavy ground and historically you need a horse that may actually have fair form over seven furlongs. Both fit the bill, leaning more towards Pintura through draw and ground in particular.

Gatepost in the Silver, Best Trip in the Bronze but they aremore speculative. I don't see many getting into the big race, perversely

Indeed, Tone.

However, if you'd permed the four above in two each way trebles (1x1x2) with a bookie playing 5 places on the day on the Silver and Gold (i.e. not Corals or Lads),

Best Trip 3rd 14/1
Gatepost 5th 28/1
Regal Parade 2nd 25/1
Pintura 10th unpl

There's a place treble paying 261 units for 8 outlay.

I'm a fucking cunt for not doing it myself but I couldn't have done a Hills run today as my innards decided to growl

I deserve fucking because I didn't dutch in the big race either. I fell between every fucking stool today. Didn't put a fortune down, mind, never do when off colour because my concentration goes AWOL

Told you I felt shit on the day - that treble is of course only 4 units paying 261 (1x1x2 = 2 win plus 2 place)

Ayr seems to be standing up to scrutiny - Maarek won a black type event today at Ascot on equally testing ground and Jack Dexter (one of the consolation race winners at Ayr) won over 7f in a big field handicap

Maarek has just won at Newbury and Jack Dexter runs in the Ayr Gold Cup inside quarter of an hour.

Needless to say, I'm against it (on Spinatrix)

Two years further down the line and I did it again. I don't care if it is an aftertime, I've been otherwise occupied over the last couple of days (it seems Ayr does not agree with my innards - see previous story) and they've split Gold, Silver and Bronze over a three day period.

So Friday (and the two on Saturday) I took one high (in bold), one low and came up with

Expose 14/1, Gatepost 12/1

Mehdi 20/1, Tatlisu 20/1

Blaine 16/1, Hamza 25/1

E/W 12 doubles and 8 trebles, 20 xEW bets

The highs had it. Expose won, 12s, Mehdi was a never nearer second, 14s, Blaine a never nearer third and not given any real chance, flying at the death, 7s. The others ran well (15th, 8th, 17th) but were completely fucked by the draw
- both the winners of the Bronze and Silver were out of stall 27 of 27
- the tricast in the Silver was 27, 26, 25. 22 was 5th.
- the Bronze had 23, 24, 25, 26 and 27 in the first 9 but none in single figures
- the Gold was won out of 19, high enough, but 3rd, 4th, 5th and 7th were 26, 24, 25, 23

Returns over 200 for 40 out. Another winner wouldn't have gone amiss and I don't think I was being greedy asking for both given the little chance the lows had in comparison. Of course, the three together would return >6000 for 40...

One of these days...Cool
