As good a thread as any.

They ran at Exeter today and should never have turned out - it was bottomless but they cut a few fences out and narrowed the course in places to make it safe.  There were non-runners aplenty but in extremes of ground, they become easier to sift.

Came up with Padge in the handicap hurdle - 20/1 was insulting as it was good value for place, maybe win, but had unseated its last twice over fences.  Hurdles are easier, got on, finished third.

The other was Golden Chieftain in the big veterans' chase right after.  Could go further but the ground was of no real inconvenience.  Led from the off, burnt them all off and was 20 lengths clear and travelling comfortably ahead of a poor second when it knuckled and fell at the second last.  No remounts rule in place, otherwise he could have still got back on, even being passed by those left in and still fucking won.

They omitted the last and as the way distant third also fell at the second last, the poor second (evens favourite) bobbed over the last and had to be practically carried over the line - go and watch it, it isn't jump racing's finest hour.

Fucked me over completely (ew singles and half stakes ew double) but compounded by the fact that if they had had to jump the last, they'd have voided the race.  There is no way the winner would have got over it.

And the bookie's satchel gets to keep the second spot in the place market

Worth a watch, Tone - Johnson had to cajole it all the way to keep it moving forwards, to the point that you see the groundstaff on what is the outside of the course waiting for the fucking thing to go by so they could get inside to make ready for the next.  I swear a couple of them look at their watches like someone waiting for David Pleat to go past before they can cross...
