Was actually a prisoner of of war in real life after his plane was shot down, though he started the war as a conshy.

I was once told, on decent-ish authority, that Pleasance once lived in the same village/town (it has pretensions of towndom, but really is a village when all's said and done) that I grew up in. Don't know if it's true.
