i really ought to give up the cheap cider

I don't mean the problem as in "drink problem", Eric. I think you're too level-headed for that anyway.

I mean it becomes the problem as it is a big cause of the concentration of uric acid that then crystallises in your extremities to trigger gout. If as little as a 5-pint bottle of cider is doing that, worth having it checked.
