Hurricane Fly could turn out to be the theft of the century at 9/4, IMO. People are looking at his age and not his record. A 9yo is not a back number. A fourteen time G1 winner who is still winning and doing it well is certainly not

Hurricane Fly duly scoots up at 13/8 (I was going to plough in just before the off again if 9/4 was there - there will be a lot of wealthy Irishmen in Gloucestershire tonight) and once again proves his worth

Re: Cheltenham 2013
Wix has been given Sam Winner from the Nichols yard and Pont Alexandre is supposedly possibly the best horse Ruby Walsh as sat on. I have a feeling it will dump him for having said that.

Re: Cheltenham 2013
Fuck me, BOAT, unlucky to not be in for the first three winners and at decent prices.
Evidently the wet is out of the ground, but backing Unioniste, a 5yo chaser, well, I deserve everything I get.

Re: Cheltenham 2013
The fucking hard luck story of all hard luck stories.
October 20th 2012, among my EW Lucky 15s (I have a pairs, doubled perm, usually 6x Luckys, small stakes), I managed to hit three together with the fourth to run.
The three were
Rite Of Passage W8/1
Maarek W5/1
Balthazar King W9/1
Needless to say I was a bit edgy watching the fourth leg looking at a four-figure win for frankly pennies.
The fourth horse travelled supremely well throughout and was done fair and square by a horse that had a full tank and went past it although it paddled the last. 2nd, 18/1.
Fucking Medinas, trained by Alan King.
Now look at the 4.00 Coral Cup result. I am on Meister Eckhart, trained by Alan King...

It can be a cruel game bert, so near but yet so far etc. Never really clicked with any big multi's had one or two decent placepots up and once had 1400+ win for a £ stake on a pick 2 from each section on a footy coupon.
Just mainly a level stake single bet man nowadays on the GG's

Re: Cheltenham 2013
The finest big multi hard luck story I had was my Autumn Treble a few years back:
Sergeant Cecil, Cesarewitch, 12s (I made a fortune out of the Sarge that season)
Blue Monday, Cambridge, 10s
Westerner, Arc, 33s
All win singles, E/W doubles and treble ante post.
The Sarge was going to win the Ces as third leg. I was utterly convinced of it and was proved right (he's won the Plate and Ebor already, was a group horse handicapping and had the toe to be competitive over 10f but was a behemoth as soon as he was let loose over 14f upwards).
Blue Monday won the Cambridge on the Saturday as leg one. I was at Longchamp for leg 2. Peslier was on Westerner and hit the front right in front of me, and fuck me, he'd won the Arc at the furlong pole as he went past and stole the march on the remaining field in contention. Fallon was on the real danger, Hurricane Run, my idea of the winner until hearing Westerner was stepping back in trip and not going for the Cadran and it became a toss-up for selection. 33/1 beats 5/2, I'm afraid.
Fallon was stuck on the rail, nowhere to go. Johnny Murtagh was on Motivator, the Derby winner and he was just beginning to stop, Fallon in his slip. He hit him right-handed, he rolled off the rail and Fallon got his route up the inner with 100 fucking yards to go. Five or six seconds more traffic, that's all it needed and it was another misjudged ride by Fallon and a punch up with Gary Carter in the weighing room. Instead he gets the fucking hero's accolade and I miss out on a payout that was in the region of £5k.
Haven't been to Longchamp since. Not because of that but because the kids were born 2005 onwards. Best day's racing in the calendar by a fucking mile.

Formula One gets some people going, Tone. Some people watch Stoke for pleasure as well...
You have to have a Kanterbrau and a sandwich de jambon at Longchamp to appreciate it and as a viewing platform, it's outstanding

Late in today but fucking awful first two, unsighted.
At Fishers Cross

I Don't Fucking Care
what wins the Foxhunters
The French-named one of Pipe's
isn't done yet and
Anquetta
wins his dad's race for Nicky Henderson

Re: Cheltenham 2013
Have yet to change my opinion on the National but am feeling increasingly sanguine about the chances of Holywell in the Gold Cup next week.
There is also a job horse in the Pertemps if it gets in - Tony Martin's Edeymi received a very "sympathetic" ride in a qualifier at Musselburgh not long back and Tony Martin himself, "shrewd handicap placer" as he is (i.e. legal fucking cheat ) has said that he's up for the Pertemps and he isn't going for box space. Thing is, he may needs one or two to come out to guarantee a run - he appears to be joint 21st of 48 at the minute with four others which means that he has a fifth share of 25th (the safety limit is 24) which suggests he has an 80% chance of getting in anyway but will get in guaranteed if one of the other 24 doesn't go.
Ireland could scoop the pool as well. UK trained horses have been loosely described this season as "shit" and will be lucky to pick up any of the novice events (six races) to say nothing of the rest of the cards.

Re: Cheltenham 2013
Hard lines today - went in behind the nap foursome (three in and a faller at the last with the race won) of Walsh and found a winner and a runner up on the subcard.
Four winners, nice profit but Annie Power standing up would have been nice and Thomas Crapper (I shit ye not) would have been nicer again.
