Re: Cup Final Tickets
On the train back from Prestatyn now, first game of the season. Welsh hills on one side, sky on the other, floodlit football in a close in stadium, fucking magic.
4-1 to the seasiders. Great start

I backed them at 1.55 when they were 1-0 up.

Re: Cup Final Tickets
Fuck me, Tone, that was an absolute steal. The game wasn't overly heavy on chances but they are a very tidy footballing side. Football in North Wales has probably never been so healthy. Gate was 559 and if they kee getting that sort of turnout, they'll do all right (already making plans on how to get to Rhyl/Prestatyn for the h/a double header on Boxing Day/New Year's Day)

Re: Cup Final Tickets
Incidentally, heard this chant from the particularly vocal Prestatyn Armada...
We're the best behaved supporters in the land (when we win)
We're the best behaved supporters in the land (when we win)
We're the best behaved supporters

We're a right shower of bastards when we lose
We're a right shower of bastards when we lose
We're a right shower of bastards
A right shower of bastards
We're a right shower of bastards when we lose
Not unusual, but the middle verse added
"We are slightly ill-tempered when we draw"
which is brilliant.

FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!
I saw Prestatyn were at home to TNS today and checked the prices.
Nearly fell over when I saw the home side were 13/2.
Didn't back them as I thought the price had to be that huge for a very good reason (8 first teamers out for exmple?) and the fuckers have won 1-0!

Re: Cup Final Tickets
They sat back and soaked up everything, Tone. TNS are fully professional rather than semi-pro, and they move the ball about well and play the full width. Champions or runners-up 12 times in the last 14 seasons. The big dogs, as it were.
The goal was an absolute fucking snorter, view it if you can on Sgorio (I kid you not) or Clic (online S4C repeats). TNS full back fell heavily and the game was held up an hour because of a suspected neck/spinal injury (he went off in good spirits) and I'd say they only really got properly through Prestatyn the once and their centre forward fucked it up from inches.
Prestatyn have a solid pair of centre backs. Sean Hessy I find particularly impressive and Dave Hayes may be just about the best the league has. Thy earned their corn today.
This, meanwhile, says to me that some people just shouldn't fucking bet, ever. Note the Prestatyn Twitter page was on the money for timings and I was at the ground...

At Bangor next week. Won't be able to go, a Menai Bridge too far (Friday night game)

I can hear Bert Trautmann laughing from here...and he's a fucking long way away.NotBert wrote: the game was held up an hour because of a suspected neck/spinal injury

Re: Cup Final Tickets
TBH, Tone I was impressed at how quickly everyone reacted. It didn't look that bad (I was literally ten yards away) but the ref was right on it the coaching team were straight on and one bloke lay there and secured his head for an hour.
For every Bert Trautmann you get something seemingly innocuous like Derek Dooley. I'm impressed at how far we've come. He (Chris Marriott) was discharged on Tuesday with no serious injury.

Re: Cup Final Tickets
Fucking magic! I've been in another coastal town today on business and not long got in. Top of the league, only 100% record and at Gap Connah's Quay on Tuesday (League Cup). Can't go to that although it's nearer for me (unless my week takes a sharp turn for the quieter which it might, but not by Tuesday).
Reverse of that fixture next Saturday which might be interesting as GCQ were expected to be in contention for bottom but are unbeaten in three.
Nev Powell meanwhile will probably be as fucking furious as he was in May when bellyaching about the cup final. Can't say I'm not grinning at the prospect.

Re: Cup Final Tickets
That's a monumental shout, though, Tone, that is one of the harder games of the season. Were it not for Rhyl being back in the Welsh Prem, that would be the bad blood game of the division too. Bangor had put segregation plans together for tonight (which they dropped today) and they fucking hate Neil Gibson with a vengeance.
That'll smart. Heheh

Poetic justice.....I DIDN'T back Prestatyn at 13/2 when they beat TNS
I DID back Bangor when they got fucked 2-4 at home last time out.

Re: Cup Final Tickets
I won't make any rash predictions but I will say that picking up Sean Hessey in the close season is an exceptional move. They were solid at the back tonight again, it seems, and he is a very tidy ball carrying centre back whose set piece work stands up.

Re: Cup Final Tickets
Twat of a result yesterday, a (literally) gifted goal and one where everyone stopped and let the bloke just fucking run right through the middle unchecked. Two ruled out for offside, one which ws, one which, IMO, the linesman gave as a best guess because he wasn't up with play and discounted what I fancy was a well timed run on to a deep cross that was in the air a while.
Meanwhile, have a look at this...

I barely recognise myself on the telly meanwhile. Am visible in passing on a couple of shots (it was live on S4C but we were there) and I have to be pointed outNotBert wrote:The goal was an absolute fucking snorter, view it if on Sgorio (I kid you not) or Clic (online S4C repeats) - here's a link, Wayne Rooney built an entire career on a strike like this

A superb goal indeed!!
By the way, the mug that fell on his Gregory was putting it all on...fuck all wrong with 'im.
Who was Martin Walsh by the way Bert?

Re: Cup Final Tickets
I don't know, Tone - the Welsh grounds (Rhyl springs straight to mind) seem to have stands named after bygones as a matter of course. Bastion Gardens went through a very fast upgrade to get them into the Welsh Premier, floodlights and so forth put in in a week after they waited for planning permission and it was all down to community all hands to the pump. Not sure if Martin Walsh would have been behind that.
I think it would have been the Martin Walsh stand even before that, though. The seats (explaining the blue) are as a matter of interest salvaged from the old Gay Meadow, believe it or not, so Shrewsbury made Europe by proxy this year...

1-0 loss at Aberystwyth tonight. Deflected winner, goal disallowed for Town, fuck me, what do they have to do to get a bit of the rub?

Top of the league Wingmakers on Friday (they've ony dropped one point all season, against Rhyl of all clubs). The boy and I are making the journey. Wondering if he'll sing with the Ultras, he's dying to...

Re: Cup Final Tickets
He was singing, albeit not loudly but he was following them in.
Strange game. 0-2 at half time and I couldn't for the life of me see how. Airbus seemed mainly set pieces and physicality with some quick overlapping which ultimately did the damage.
Prestatyn fucking murdered them in the second half. Airbus ended up fighting with anyone who'd listen, including themselves, and lost all composure. 2-2 within a quarter of an hour of the restart, they got a fucking nonsense penalty three minutes from time out of nothing and took the points back to Broughton. Their own fans leaving the ground even thought they'd been a shade lucky.

Fuck me, how long does this refereeing bollocks have to keep going on. The Newtown manager and is fucking stewards commiserated with Gibbo this week because of the penalty that wasn't given. You have to see it on Sgorio. He fucking punches it out for a corner.
They should still be unbeaten with proper reffing. It's nuts.

Re: Cup Final Tickets
If you were travelling to Port Talbot today, you had to get the 6.43 out of Prestatyn and go through England to get there. One Ultra said "I'll be good until Flint" which by my reckoning would be about eight to ten minutes...
I hope they stayed over and got pissed on the back of a 1-0 win having played with ten for the last hour.

Re: Cup Final Tickets
Been away, and a good job too. Was at the 0-0 Port Talbot draw but last week against Aberystwyth the ref sent off both captain and player manager with fifteen and ten to go for apparently "their mouths". I say apparently because no-one knows. I think someone had seen the ref's report yesterday (they were at Airbus) and recited what was on it because it still makes no fucking sense. Fair play to Aberystwyth, they agreed they don't know what the fuck he was on either.
Massively depleted (both centre backs out - suspension from last week and injury) and two central mids out (both suspensions, one fair, one last week) on a wet pitch in a gale interpersed with it pissing down yesterday, live on S4C. We went and got drowned. They played well, had a fair shape about them and for 75 minutes were the side who deserved to lead on chances. Airbus had a cracking last 20, though, really looked the part and although the 2-0 flattered over the 90, they are value for that league on how they finished the game. Now unbeaten in competition (including Europe - two draws and away goals loss) for 6 months. They even have decent scran at the teabar (crisp chips, meaty burger, my boy hammered it)
Last week's ref was unfortunately named "Pratt" and was namechecked quite a few times by by the Ultras...
