Time to scrap the FA Cup

Already is, Tone. Danny Baker said last night on Twitter that a Chelsea fan was on bemoaning how shit it was because it wasn't a full house. Baker's point was that if they drew Southend in the next round, he could guarantee a full house at Roots Hall (and probably with demand besides).

My response was that he lost me at "Chelsea fan" and that surely he meant "attendee".

Moneyed cunts destroyed it, like when United went to fuck about with the round robin circus playing against the best of Australia's factory teams and rather than leave a youth team or stiffs XI in for the ride, dropped out of the oldest club competition in the world.

Fine the top half of the Premier for fielding weakened sides like they used to in the 60s and award the furthest group stage European place to the best non-CL finisher, whether they win or not (play off if necessary). There are teams who'd cut their cocks off to win the cup so give them a tilt at Europe as well irrespective. The greatest win I've ever seen was in front of 1700 people at Wrexham this year in the Welsh Cup where a town of 20,000 who'd never won a stick, never been near in a century, fund themselves catapulted into Europe and went around town on an open topped bus, the lot.

Twats ruined the cup. Ruin the twats, not the cup.

And don't get me started on the fucking "Champions" League...

Going back to the initial sentiment of this thread, Tone, today was the day of the last 16 and of the 8 ties, not fucking one kicked off at 3pm today. There were only three played, there are three tomorrow and the others are as yet unresolved. The undecided is fine but as many on a Sunday as the Saturday? That's fucking disgraceful

Brighton have to replay against Hull on a Monday because it can't be on a European Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday if the FA tie involves a Premiership side.

This is why the FA Cup is fucked. Meaningless European round robins and arsy stipulations

This year, rather than illustrate the magic, has only served to make this thread more pointed. Non-league sides shouldn't make the sixth round proper and there shouldn't be two in the fifth. However, since even Division 2 (the fucking Championship) sides prioritise finishing in the top 6 for a shot at money for block fixtures, it means over 30 "elite" sides will give less of a shit than they should.

Not a bad final this year, but still overshadowed for me by a side from a town with a population of under 2000 winning the Welsh Cup for the first time in their history
