Fulham are the only team in the Premier League to have done the double over Liverpool. They had never won at Anfield until last week

Villa, although shit, have lost 5 games away from home only with one to play. Only Manchester United have lost fewer away. The five they have lost were against the current top 5.

In their 12 games against the top 6, Bolton's only point was when Arsenal visited and couldn't score.

City, against the bottom 6, have played 11, won 11. QPR next week would make the set

Villa have won 7 games. If they fail to win their last, they set a record. The only side to win as few as 7 games and stay up since the 38 games season was West Brom in 2004/05, who only won 6. However, the three sides beneath them also only won 7, 7 and 6 respectively and as such, someone out of those four had to stay up.

If they fail to win at Stoke, Villa will have the worst winning record to stay up independent of any other sides' equally abysmal record.

It never happened before or since.
96 - None. (Coventry meanwhile survived with 8 wins).
97 - Forest, bottom, 6 wins (Next worst, 9)
98 - None. (Palace were bottom and the only 8 game winner)
99 - Forest, bottom, 7 wins. Blackburn, 2nd bottom, 7 wins. (Charlton were the only 8 game winner. They took the third relegation slot)
00 - Watford, bottom, 6 wins. Wimbledon, 3rd bottom, 7 wins. (Sheffield Wednesday were the only 8 game winner. They were 2nd bottom)
01 - Bradford, bottom, 5 wins. (Coventry, 2nd bottom, and Man City, 3rd bottom, were next, the only 8 game winners)
02 - Leicester, bottom, 5 wins. (Derby, 2nd bottom, were the only 8 game winner)
03 - Sunderland, bottom, 4 wins. West Brom, 2nd bottom, 6 wins. (Next worst, 10 Shocked West Ham went down with 42 points)
04 - Leicester, 3rd bottom, 6 wins. Wolves, bottom, 7 wins. (Leeds were the only 8 game winner. They went down, 2nd bottom)
05 - West Brom, 17th, 6 wins. Southampton, bottom, 6 wins. Norwich, 2nd bottom, 7 wins. Palace, 3rd bottom, 7 wins. (Next worst, 9)
06 - Sunderland, bottom, 3 wins. West Brom, 2nd bottom, 7 wins. (Birmingham were the only 8 game winner. 3rd bottom)
07 - Watford, bottom, 5 wins. (Charlton went down, 2nd bottom, with 8 wins. Fulham finished 16th with 8 wins)
08 - Derby, bottom 1 (yes, 1) win. (Birmingham went down, 2nd bottom, with 8 wins. Fulham finished 17th with 8 wins)
09 - Middlesbrough, 2nd bottom, 7 wins. Newcastle, 3rd bottom, 7 wins. (West Brom went down, bottom, with 8 wins. Hull finished 17th with 8 wins)
10 - Hull, 2nd bottom, 6 wins. Portsmouth, bottom, 7 wins. (Burnley went down, 3rd bottom, with 8 wins. West Ham, 8 wins, 17th)
11 - West Ham, bottom, 7 wins. (Birmingham, 3rd bottom, went down with 8 wins)

In summary - Sides who won
1 - One
3 - One
4 - One
5 - Three
6 - Seven
7 - Eleven
8 - Eighteen

Villa will join that club of 42 guaranteed "8 items or less" and maybe also the "7 and under club" (popn: 24)
Of the 42, a massive 36 were relegated. Two of the six survivors were Fulham in back to back seasons.
Of the 24, only one survived and that was in a year where there were too many under-8s to relegate the lot.

The 42/36 will potentially become 45/38 if Blackburn fail to win as they're on 8 now and down, as are Wolves
The 24 will become 25 guaranteed with still only one survivor (Wolves again) but will become 24/26 if Villa don't win at Stoke. Villa, should they not win, would be the first side (twelfth occasion) since the 38 game season to win 7 games only and stay up.

Villa and Stoke are the two least goalscoring sides in the division. With nothing to play for, I would send a cardboard cutout of Tony Gubba to that game to report.

Important fact.

Norwich are not Stoke. You might prefer to go to Stoke to see Villa at the weekend. Because they're at Carrow Road.
