Re: fish and chips
Right, I have 10oz worth of haddock fillets on the go, a smattering of chips and am about to decant half a tin of mushy peas. I have a bottle of Marynka single hop in the fridge getting a mild chill and a fancy ice cream for after.
I'm doing all right...

Going to be up a bit yet, MJ, and added to which, the versions are doing are all doctor-friendly. I'm like a dietician's poster boy "see, you can eat well and without too much shite"

It is a sign of the times and my indignation that I'm more interested in the background than the sylph-like vision in front who should fuck off if she isn't ordering

You can't better 7/10 at home, MJ.
Here's the 10 spot
Done pretty lightly, BOAT - surprisingly quite low in fat.

That's a bold statement, MJ - they are few and far between and you don't live on the coast (you need the salt in the air too)

Re: fish and chips
OK, I'm going to list them.
If you're ever in these towns, find the shops listed:
West Kirby - Marigolds as above. Firstly, what the fuck are you doing in West Kirby? West Kirby has a marina, a lot of old people, a Morrison's and Hilbre Island when the tide is out. If there, you go up the river to Parkgate afterwards for ice cream at Nicholls as well. Sit down restaurant, use it. I once got a takeaway from there and was eating it on the train, almost crying because it was too much to eat but too nice to stop.
Southport - No, really. The Swan on Stanley Street. Go in, have a sit down, order some of the curry as well - classic chip shop stuff. There are a lot of hit and miss places but if you wanted chips only, the Sandgrounder on Nevil Street next to Queen Victoria does a fair bag.
Rhyl - Jan and Julie's on Grange Road. Find the football ground, it's literally over the road, opposite the Botanical Gardens next door, home of (I kid you not) the Sunny Rhyl Bowling Club. 11am to 8pm so not servicing drunks, some odd items on the menu that I'm dying to ask but they do fantastic chips and though no haddock, a rock solid cod. Take away only, cross the road and sit next to the bowling green.
Blackpool - Get a tram to Fleetwood instead, the whole town is a fucking pisspoor clipjoint.
Llandudno - Tribell's off the front, a bit back from the pier/slipway. Not as spectacular as those above IMO but at the same time, always first choice. Again, sit down.

Re: fish and chips
Went the Swan on Thursday and they provided me with what appeared to be a haddock that had been in a fight and "not won".
There's a battered joke that I'm not going to do because the look was deceptive - it was fucking spot on, thin, crisp, red hot fresh batter, chips as tidy as ever (pale ones as well, Jonesy, but pale golden not insipidly pale off-white) and the ideal portion of decent mushies.
I will add another to the list
New Brighton - the Perch Fish Bar
There's a Flickr pic of a typical box (yes, I won't begrudge this) of fish, chips and mushy peas. Magical stuff - the place looks a bit rough and ready but it's a waterfront chippy in an English resort that like so many has had to reinvent itself to survive, let alone thrive as it did when it still had a pier and a ferry service. And unusually for me, it's cod.
They also did the best mushy peas I have ever had (seasoned to perfection) the first time we went back there last year. They've never matched them since, mind, but it was an impossible act to follow, they're still tidy.
